Conference website and programme
The conference is supported by a dedicated website https://oer18.oerconf.org . Upon arrival you will receive a conference guide but we encourage you to browse the programme online at: https://oer18.oerconf.org/programme/. You can also use the site to plan the sessions you’d like to attend, add yourself to the participant directory and connect with other participants in advance of the conference. For guidance on how you can do this visit: https://oer18.oerconf.org/help/
To do this you will need to login using your ALT or OER18 registration credentials. Please check you can log in before the event, passwords can be reset if necessary. For more guidance on using the website and its interactive features visit: https://oer18.oerconf.org/help/
Venue location and travel
The conference venue is Watershed, 1 Canons Road, Harbourside, Bristol, BS1 5TX.
Bristol Temple Meads train station is about one mile from the venue. From here you can walk, get a taxi or take one of the following buses to the venue
- Bus no. X39 or 73 to Prince Street
- Bus no. 8, 9 or 72 to College Green
If travelling by car the venue itself does not have parking but there are two car parks closeby – Millennium Square Car Park and Trenchard Street NCP parking.
Bristol airport is located 25 minutes away by car. If you are flying please note the UK is implementing flight restrictions on electronics (e.g. laptops and tablets) from certain countries. We recommend checking UK Government Guidance and with your airline before travel.
Registration
The registration desk is open from 09.00 to 17.00 on Wednesday and 09:00-10:30 on Thursday. It is important that you wear your badge throughout the conference (you are liable to be challenged by venue staff if you do not wear it). You will also need your badge to gain access to the social activities on Wednesday evening.
WiFi Internet Access
The WiFi guest service is powered by Watershed. The network username is watershed_open and does not require a password. As the networks are shared please use responsibly.
Tuesday arrivals
Note: that there is no early registration on Tuesday and no access to the conference venue.
If you are arriving early on the Tuesday you can join the lunchtime walking tour or the informal meet up in the evening. As there is no registration on Tuesday take the opportunity to explore our exciting host city.
OER18 Lunchtime Walking Tour
If you are keen to explore Bristol landmarks on foot with OER18’s own Vivien Rolfe as your guide, then meet up for the OER18 Lunchtime Walking Tour. Meeting point is outside Watershed at 1pm. If you need somewhere to store your luggage from £6 per bag you can store it securely using CityStasher.
Evening meet-up
We are meeting at 6pm at the Beer Emporium, an underground Bar/Restaurant/Award Winning Bottle Shop in the heart of Bristol Old Town, the “Beermuda Triangle” – it has an extensive and diverse food menu and is a good meeting place to go and explore Bristol.
Social evening Wednesday 17 April
This year we are offering participants something a little different: after the main programme ends on Wednesday, boats are leaving (embark at 5pm) for a tour of the Bristol’s Floating Harbour – fascinating for its history and Brunel associations. See our host city from a different perspective, relax and reflect with fellow participants.
The boats will arrive back at Watershed for a celebration, finger food, drinks and music from 6pm onwards. Please remember your conference badge for entry.

By attending this event you are also bound by the regulations and code of conduct of the venue. Participants violating any of these rules will be expelled from the event without refund.
