It provides a space for users to claim their owndigital identity and learn valuable skills relevant in our society today\, and web hosting is one wayto create that space. To the individual\, obtaining that space on the web can seemoverwhelming. In an environment like Domain of One’s Own\, there is a sense of community thatfosters learning and communication between participants.\nBut\, how does one promote an open environment\, like Domain of One’s Own\, while makingsure the community is supported? How can curators work to make that support scalable tohundreds of users? There are many applications\, open-source and paid\, that foster acommunity of users while creating a scalable support system.\nDuring this session\, Meredith Fierro will explain how Reclaim Hosting utilizes resources such asDiscourse\, Asana\, blogging\, and Slack to foster and support a community of thousands whileencouraging individual learning and interaction.She will discuss the benefits of open source software and applications and how their use allowsfor scalable support as the community expands. She will explore how Reclaim Hosting built thefoundation of their documentation and community using Discourse\, through categories like the‘Newbies Corner’ and ‘Questions’ where new members can learn about creating their ownspace on the web and other members can continue to ask questions about their websites. Howtask-oriented lists in Asana allow for ongoing internal maintenance\, through public and personalto-do lists.\nShe will dive into how to communicate effectively to community participants throughblogging\, particularly from Jim Groom and Lauren Brumfield’s website. And finally she will lookat how Slack facilitates internal communication within Reclaim Hosting to keep everyone ontrack through channels like ‘Monitoring’ and ‘Support’. She will demonstrate how theseapplications foster learning in the Domain of One’s Own community and allow educationaltechnology groups to create a scalable support system.\nThrough these applications\, Reclaim Hosting provides an open environment that focuses onempowerment\, fosters learning\, and encourages growth as a community. These applicationsallow the administrators of the community work efficiently and organized to support the group asa whole.
